This time of year, with heating costs high, you might be thinking of installing wood stove. Have a professional install it to make sure chimney and stove are set up safely. If you're a "do-it-yourselfer", visit the [State Fire Marshal's web site](http://www.maine.gov/dps/fmo/index.htm) and look for their Alternate Heating Safety fact sheet.

These days, anyone can have family members across the state, across the country or across the globe. This makes having a family communications plan (http://www.maine.gov/mema/prepare/prep_display.shtml?id=163545) especially important. There's no more helpless feeling than worrying about someone you can't get in touch with. Set up central points of contact. Make sure everyone has everyone else's phone numbers and e-mail addresses. Then keep in touch!
